 "Horrible Product!" 2009-09-06

Please note that this unit does not produce "mist" but ONLY STEAM. The steam generated was very little and unit needed to be on for at least a couple hours before you could tell the difference. I got this originally due to the dry air in the winter but this did not help very much due to the lack of steam. Additionally, my unit leaked onto my hardwood floors and caused a short circuit in my bedroom! Be very careful how you place the unit (if the floor is slightly uneven or if the edge of the unit on a carpet) - the slightest tilt will cause the unit to leak! I was very disappointed overall and obviously threw the unit out after it caused a short circuit in my bedroom.

"Works well but can be a bit loud and is very hard to clean" 2009-04-15
By Vladimir Levin (Calgary, AB, Canada)
I don't want to have to keep buying those mineral absorbtion pads so instead I clean the small stainless steel cup that boils the water. In order to do so I have to remove the water containers and the middle piece, then I have to poour vinegar diluted with water into the tub for several hours. To complete the cleaning I then add a bit of baking soda to get some fizz going and scrub. I do this every week. Admittedly the water here is very hard so this may not be a problem for others. The bottom line is the unit works well, but it is a pain in the neck to clean. Also at times the unit can become a bit loud and it occasionally wakes me up at night. It usually seems to quiet down after a little while. Over all this is a pretty decent product but I wish there were a way to make cleaning the unit less awkward and time consuming without resorting to those expensive pads.

"Works great, hate the blue led" 2009-04-11
By Virginia (Illinois)
I moved from humid South Florida to the Midwest last fall. Obviously I am not used to the dry air in the winter. (In FL we look forward to a little drop in humidity in the winter!) By January I was in desperate need for a humidifier in the bedroom at night. I first purchased a cool mist humidifier and it made the air feel clammy. Returned it and got this one. It greatly relieved my dried out nose/sinuses & I slept a lot better. I managed not to get sick this winter & I never tried any Vics in the reservoir, so I can't comment on that feature.

Some reviewers have complained of the noise level. I do not find it a problem at all. The fan is barely noticeable. There is a soft boiling sound, and occasionally there is a little gurgle sound when air bubbles rise up in the tanks. It really does not bother me at all.

My only complaint about this unit is the annoying blue LED on the front of the unit. It is very bright and did bother me trying to sleep at night. I put a piece of tape over the LED, which looks ugly but solves the problem. I really don't understand manufacturers using these bright blue LED lights in products meant for use in a bedroom. It seems to be a trend, over the last few years several small appliances I've purchased have them. If it wasn't for this I would've given the humidifier 5 stars.

 "breathing easy" 2009-04-08
By Antoinette Palmieri
Two days before Christmas I came down with strep throat. After some research I decided to purchase this guy and it made a world of difference.

It is nice and quiet, and I only had to fill the tanks every other day. Easy to fill and clean. Plus I feel better knowing the water is being "de-germed" before it hits the air.

"Happy after lots of research" 2009-04-05

Winter in our new house is very dry - so I started researching humidifiers

After reading several sources, I decided I wanted a humdifier that was:

Steam vs. cold water

Low maintenance for cleaning - no expensive filters to replace

UV light for safer, bacteria killing properties

Tank that would last through the night

Quiet - so I can sleep with it on

This was one of the few humidifiers that met all the criteria

Now that we have used it for 3 months (every night), I can say that I'm very happy with this humidifier.

In addition to the other benefits mentioned above, there some others I was pleased to find.

1) The two tanks are VERY convenient. While the humidifier is running, you can remove one of the tanks and go fill it - while the other keeps water in the unit. The tanks are also a perfect fit in a bathroom sink basin. I was wondering if they'd be taller tanks that I'd have to fill with a bottle. Luckily, you can put it right into the bathroom sink - it's short enough to fit under the faucet, and stays in filling position without me having to hold it

2) Vicks makes a eucalyptis/vicks vapo-rub smelling solution that you can put in the top - it's been nice to have that option when fighting a cold.

As for the hard water concern. We have very hard water and often get lime deposits on the screens in our faucets. There is a solution made for humidifiers you can buy from target/walmart/kmart type stores (in the same location as the humidifiers) It helps soften the water. You put a capful in each tank evey time you refil them. This has seemed to work well- I don't see any white deposits on the heating element.
